CAAS Accreditation

Lapeer County EMS is proud to announce that they have earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services or CAAS for compliance with the national standards of excellence.  Not only was LCEMS complaint with the national standards, the review team cited absolutely no deficiencies in their on-site report.  That means that LCEMS met over 100 accreditation standards without error.

The process to become accredited requires a serious self assessment of an EMS agency; LCEMS was required to compare their operations to the accreditation standards.  Documentation of the assessment was submitted to CAAS for an off-site review where they determine the level of compliance.  The next step entailed an on-site review by a team of EMS experts, including a board certified emergency physician; a minimum of two days were spent at Lapeer County EMS reviewing all operational aspects of its service.  The site review team then generates a report to CAAS.  When all the standards are successfully achieved, the agency’s report and follow-up material goes before the Panel of Commissioners, an independent, impartial group of individuals from EMS law, business, and healthcare, for accreditation determination.  Upon completion, the Panel members passed along their special commendation to Lapeer County Emergency Services for an outstanding achievement.

The Commission is a non-profit organization which was established to encourage and promote quality patient care in America’s medical transportation system.  The primary focus of the Commission’s standards is high quality patient care.  This is accomplished by establishing national standards which not only address the delivery of patient care, but also the ambulance service’s total operation and its relationships with other agencies, the general public, and the medical community.  The Commission’s standards often exceed state or local licensing requirements.

Lapeer County Emergency Medical Services Authority became the 163 ambulance service in the country to successfully complete the voluntary review process.

We at LCEMS believe that accreditation represents our firm commitment to our patients and passion for our community.  We continuously strive to do our best and we view accreditation as another step towards excellence.
